About Time for India
India is one of the fastest-growing large economies in the world. It has shown rapid improvement in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Ranking (it’s now 63rd, climbing from 142nd in 2014). While the pandemic initially stalled economic activity, the easing of restrictions, stimulus measures and increases in economic activity, India’s economy is rebounding quickly. One interesting example is the Gati Shakti program, under which the Government of India is committing USD 1.4 Trillion for various infrastructure projects, focusing on road, rail, metro, airport, ports, and urban infrastructure. Multiple Production Linked Incentive (PLI) programs have also been launched to promote Make-in-India as an option to leverage cost-effective manufacturing capabilities in key sectors such as Telecom, Electronics, Automobile, Green Energy, Food Tech, Textiles, and Healthcare. In addition, India has emerged as a leading start-up destination with 26 new unicorns added in 2021 alone. India now has more than 500 start-up accelerators, with a focus on E-commerce, Fintech, Logistics, Gaming and Healthcare.
Swedish companies, with their focus on innovation and sustainability, are generally well placed to play an important role on the Indian market in coming years. Several MoUs have been signed between our two countries, facilitating business and R&D collaboration within the areas of Smart Energy, Smart Industry, Transportation, Healthcare & Lifesciences, Innovation and Digitalization and Space.
The breakfast seminar will be arranged in partnership between the Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi, the Consulate General of Sweden in Mumbai, the Swedish Trade and Invest Council (Business Sweden) in India, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in India, the Sweden-India Business Council, the Office of Science and Innovation at the Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi and the Embassy of India in Stockholm.
